Blast From the Past
On Sept 11 of last year I wrote:
The 9/11 investigation did get the PDB finally but Bush has never been held to account for his tastless "joke" and he has never explained the NeoCon fantasy of another Pearl Harbor while he planned to use a bin Laden attack to push for tax cuts.
Bush Starts to Sing the Blues
A sad day to remember
Bush has no shame. At fundraisers he has joked about 9/11 as winning the trifecta.
His smirky comment that he had always said Social Security was untouchable unless there was a recession, a national emergency or a war is a lie. The first recorded instance of him saying it is after he got the August 6th intelligence report he won't show 9/11 investigators.
I can only conclude that at the very least he knew and let it happen. Impeach the SOB! Try him for war crimes!
The 9/11 investigation did get the PDB finally but Bush has never been held to account for his tastless "joke" and he has never explained the NeoCon fantasy of another Pearl Harbor while he planned to use a bin Laden attack to push for tax cuts.
Bush Forced To Drop "Still The One"
Corrente calls it
Hall has made it known that the current US President made no attempt to obtain the permission for the song and that it was totally inappropriate for him to use it as he was anti-Bush.Considering OBL's latest video maybe Bush should see if he can get rights to "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover."
The Blog of 7 explains way clusterfuck applies to Iraq in both senses of the word.

Over 230 Coalition Soldiers Died to IEDs
Below is a list of over 230 Coaliton members who died due to Improvised Explosive Devices (IED). This category is first observed on July 18, 2003. All of the men and women listed below had their cause of death listed as IED. All of the US soldiers' pictures link to the press release announcing their death. All of the US Military press releases say "Under Investigation." These investigations haven't been reported. These investigations might not be looking for links to the missing 380 tons of high explosive that disappeared on Bush's watch. Even if they were, there might not be a way to tie the explosive to one source or another but let's look at it this way. Many of these IEDs were done with a pound or two of HMX or RDX. 380 tons are missing. How many pounds of those tons contributed to the deaths listed below? We may never know. Each soldier's name is linked to a Google search. If you are so inclined you can search to see what impact each of these brave and misused soldiers had going on in their lives before they became a statistic in Bush's ill-conceived, badly executed war of choice. A war that was prosecuted in such a hurry that plans to secure a huge ammo dump. An ammo dump that merited the watchful eye of the UN but was ignored by the Bush invasion.
Silly Rabbits
Comcast as an ISP is not very useful. When I called up to isolate whether it was my router or their cable modem their first step for me was to open my browser and delete all my cookies. Idiots.
Router Madness
Routers are a life saver in my multi-computer, web surfing family but I have now gone through three routers in three years. At this point, technology is changing fast enough it wasn't a horrendous burden but I prefer to buy new equipment because of the tech not because it stopped working.

Bush: Kerry has `amnesia' on Iraq
Spin Connoiseurs Rejoice!
Kerry "must have recognized the nightmare scenario that terrorists might somehow access weapons of mass destruction."Election amnesia? Is that anything like invasion amnesia? Like forgetting to guard 380 tons of high explosives?
The emasculated Mad Tea Party is going to get its spin back! While I had mentioned I had gone to Disneyland (despite their shabby treatment of Michael Moore) I hadn't mentioned that everyone in the family was aghast at the Mad Tea Party being the real "No Spin Zone".
The French Don't Take It Lying Down
Remember the Oil for Food scandal that the Bush adminstration tried to pin on the French? The French assert the report is flawed because it leaves out the American companies involved:
In other words, France to Cheney: "Va te faire enculer!"
Ashlee's Dad to the Rescue
French officials say 20 percent of the $3 billion of "French contracts" flagged in the Duelfer report in fact went to French subsidiaries of U.S. firms, notably General Electric ($445 million) and Halliburton ($127 million).
In other words, France to Cheney: "Va te faire enculer!"

Huge Cache of Explosives Vanished From Site in Iraq
Bunnatine Greenhouse Blows Whistle On Halliburton
The Iraqi interim government has warned the United States and international nuclear inspectors that nearly 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives - used to demolish buildings, make missile warheads and detonate nuclear weapons - are missing from one of Iraq's most sensitive former military installations.Bush says Iraq is the central front on the war on terrorism. It appears what he meant to say was his illegal invasion made it the One Stop Shopping for Terrorists. Cache and Carry. If only the Iraqis had put their ammo dumps in the middle of oil fields then they would have been protected by US invasion forces.

Bush Declares Kerry Can't Keep U.S. Safe
You heard it here first
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. Oct 22, 2004 — President Bush said Friday that the choice facing voters amounts to who can keep Americans safer from terrorists and that John Kerry does not measure up.Bush had originally planned to make this charge from the World Trade Center but was reminded it had been destroyed shortly after he returned from a month long vacation in Crawford. "What day was that?" Bush asked.
From Damfacrats we learn about Media Matters post about Sean InHannity's attempted smackdown of Sen. Mary Landrieu. It was really amazing to watch Sen. Landrieu calmly, cooly, rationally try to answer Inanity's questions while he kept interrupting her and bullying her. Anyways on to my prediction.
In 2008 (if Bush steals the election again this year - it seems to be the only thing he is good at) or in 2012 (if Kerry/Edwards win two terms) then the Obama/Landrieu ticket will sweep into the White House with 60% of the vote.
How can I be so certain Landrieu will most likely be the first woman Veep?
Because Hannity said, "You're not the vice president. And I doubt you ever will be."

Iraqi insurgent strength estimates have been increased. The estimates are now now 10 to 20 thousand instead of the original 2 to 7 thousand. Yet another Vietnam parallel surfaces. If these estimates are to be believed than 150,000 professional soldiers backed with $120 billion to $200 billion are being stymied by a force that is 1/10 their size. This is not a recipe for victory. Why do Republicans, Zell Miller and Ed Koch think Bush has made us safer?
Maybe Congress should rethink the Pentagon's budget priorties. Instead of Star Wars and invasion forces maybe we should just issue every American family an M-16.

Good News, Bad News
From Buzzflash we learn of some more Bad News from Florida about voting. Again. Apparently some students were duped into registering as Republicans. The Good News? Because they registered as Republicans their registration cards actually got turned in so they can vote.
Hey, Seb! Found another one for you
Can I do a takedown of a Republican as well as Seb? Sadly, No! but it won't stop me from asking today's musical question: Beldar asks his non-moonbat Democratic friends: Can John Kerry do what LBJ couldn't? Apparently, John Kerry won the primary against LBJ:
What does Beldar say about Bush?
Oh, wait he is saying that about John Kerry and not about aWol. Apparently, Beldar believes sending other people to die for no good reason makes you a resolute, whole hearted, brave warrior. Presumably, going aWol during your duty also makes you a resolute, whole hearted, brave warrior.
I guess it would be impolite for me to notice that Iraq has crippled Bush's residency and destroyed him as a leader — as a world leader, a national leader, even as a leader in his own party. In case Beldar hasn't notice it is the Bugman who is setting the national and Republican agenda and Beldar would have a much harder time convincing "Yellow Dog Democrats" to vote for DeLay.
Apparently, Beldar is trying to convince his "non-moonbat Democratic friends" that a vote for Kerry is a vote for Richard Nixon. Beldar gets a few style points for saying Democratic friends rather than Democrat friends while pandering for their votes.
Bill Clinton perfected the perpetual campaign? If that was your reason to vote against Clinton, Mr. Beldar, then how do you justify your vote for George "Send Me on Vacation or to a Fundraiser" Bush?
In fact, Beldar seems to be unclear on the concept of "Yellow Dog Democrats." They are Democrats who would rather vote for a yellow dog than a Republican; they aren't interested in voting for a yellow dog who is a Republican.
do you think John Kerry is up to the task that Lyndon Johnson failed at so miserably
What does Beldar say about Bush?
But stalemate is not an okay thing in foreign policy matters and security matters. You know this in your heart, don't you? You know that a conflicted warrior, a half-hearted warrior, a timid warrior, is really no warrior at all.
Johnson's dilemma, of course, ended up never being efffectively resolved. Instead, it crippled his presidency and destroyed him as a leader — as a world leader, a national leader, even as a leader in his own party. It led him to withdraw from the 1968 presidential race three years after winning a historic landslide. It put Richard Nixon in the White House (a memory that still makes you shudder convulsively). That was before Bill Clinton perfected the idea of the "perpetual campaign," when newly elected leaders actually hoped to govern and lead based on their mandate from the last election for a while before beginning the compromises necessary for the next one

The next time some Bush apologist accuses you of Sept 10th thinking
Tell them it so much better than August 6th thinking. That was the day that Bush and his advisors got briefing that Osama bin Laden was getting ready to use airplanes to attack the US.
I haven't found any reports yet
I am curious to know if Cat Stevens' diverted flight had a fighter escort unlike the planes that were hijacked on 9/11?
News You Won't See on TV
In the Slacker Uprising Tour, Michael Moore gave as one example of media corruption and laziness the story of whose plane did Bush use to fly the bin Ladens out of the US out of America? Only one reporter has tracked it down and the WaPo buried it. The bin Ladens flew out on the aircraft, tail number N521DB, has been chartered frequently by the White House for the press corps traveling with President Bush.
Endorsement for Sen Patty Murray
I saw Rep. Nethercutt, Sen. Murray's challenger, speak yesterday. As far as Bush Kool-Aide drinkers go he doesn't even dilute it with water. His biggest issues are: remove a citizen's right to hold a corporation accountable for damage; confirm every right wing lunatic that Bush nominates to a judgeship; invading Iraq was justified because of 9/11 (the so-called Bush Doctrine that makes breathing while Arab punishable by death); and Sen. Murray is driving good doctors out of the state of Washington.
Rep. Nethercutt wastes his legal training to make all the above positions sound reasonable and he does a fairly good job of it. He, however, suffers from the Bush Malady: certain but wrong is still wrong.
My favorite example of revisionist history, alternate universe, divorce from reality that Bush Republicans have become was Nethercutt excuse for the lack of planning for post-war Iraq and the violent chaos that ensued. He espoused the factoid that "the United States was without a constitution for 13 years." Yes, The Constitution was adopted 13 years after 1776 but before that we had a ten year experiment with the Articles of Confederation and before that the Continental Congress operated as an outlaw organization (rebels, insurgents and terrorists according to King George) after news of the rebellion hit England.
Sen. Murray must be returned to the Senate. She is one of the few willing to stand up to the madness of our present day King George.
One more reason to deny Nethercutt power. He has taken $18,000 dollars from Tom DeLay. I want my U.S Senator answering to the people of Washington state not some corrupt person like Delay.

Two Thumbs Up for the Slacker Uprising Tour!
My hands are sore and I am hoarse from all the clapping and shouting. 10,000 people in Seattle's Key Arena rallied for Bush's ouster. 9 Republicans showed up outside to protest his appearance. Our local reporters, if they were still there, probably felt a bit flustered as 10,000 people shouted "Where were you?" when Moore criticized the news media for abandoning their jobs to cheerlead for Bush's runup to the Iraq invasion. Moore pointed out that 70% of the people were for the war based on what the news media told them at the time. Once the facts were known, after money, honor and lives were staked and lost, 54% of the people are against the war.
He has several more stops to before the election. If he is coming to your town then try and see it.
Yippie!

Death of a Salesman?
Blah3 points out an interesting tidibt. The Reservists who refused the suicide mission said it was a bad idea because the fuel was contaminated and could cause helicopter crashes. Their fuel had already been refused by one base.
So we now have a bunch of contaminated fuel from Halliburton. The Halliburton sales rep can either take back the damaged goods and lose the money or if the fuel gets blown up by insurgents then Halliburton gets paid for the contaminated fuel. Where did the suicide mission orders come from? I am not talking about their commander but where did the commander get the orders to deliver the fuel over a hazardous route? Is it coincidence that junker trucks were chosen for this mission?
Halliburton, go Cheney yourself.
By the way, where does Bush, who plays Commander in Chief on aircraft carriers, get the moral authority to punish reservists who refuse orders? Bush refused an order to take a physical, for God's sake. His punishment? He got to go home early with an honorable discharge.

Republicans and Their Newspapers Are Delusional
The Philly Post Gazette boldly states Bush vs. Kerry: As budget deficit mounts, neither candidate appears to offer much to stem red ink
The Gazette would have us believe that there isn't a dime's worth of difference between Bush's plan to continue to cut taxes for rich people despite his record breaking deficits and Kerry's plan to restore fiscal sanity by undoing Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy.
The Indianapolis Star Claps Louder
The Gazette would have us believe that there isn't a dime's worth of difference between Bush's plan to continue to cut taxes for rich people despite his record breaking deficits and Kerry's plan to restore fiscal sanity by undoing Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy.
With visions of stuffed flight suits in their heads, the Indianapolis Star ignores the economic devastation of their state, the lifes lost of their young men and women in Iraq and demand of Bush the exact opposite of Bush's record and his 2004 campaign promises. In an editorial they demand "In 2nd term, Bush must unify nation by admitting errors, seeking remedies"
Like he did on 9/11! Okay, bad example. Like he did when he allowed the Homeland Security Department to track down Democrats hiding out in New Mexico. Oops, sorry another bad example. Like he did in Iraq where Sunnis and Shiites put aside a centuries old distrust to attack American soldiers. Oops, sorry, let's forget the example.
The Indy Star must be angling for another tax break because they haven't been paying attention to the campaign. What the Indy Star wants: Bush to admit making a mistake. What Bush cannot do: admit a mistake. What the Indy Star wants: Bush to change his disastrous course on practically every issue. What Bush promises: to stay the course through resolute leadership.
A goodly number, it should be noted, was less than his opponent Al Gore. He was decisive about Iraq and we saw where that got us. "The candidate best able to articulate the traditional moral values of Middle America"? Articulate? This proves the Indy Star editorialist didn't watch the debates. Actions speak louder than words so maybe Bush can "articulate" moral values of Middle America as long as those moral values include stealing an election, saddling children and grandchildren with debt, torturing Arab men and killing Arab women and children who happen to be standing in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The Indy Star come to their conclusion by ignoring Sen Kerry's record.
So the resolute editorialist in Indianapolis is urging his readers to clap louder for Bush. Hey, it worked for Tinkerbelle why not for TinkerBush?
Our position is: President Bush must use a second term to protect and unify the nation.

What Bush cannot do: admit a mistake. What the Indy Star wants: Bush to change his disastrous course on practically every issue. What Bush promises: to stay the course through resolute leadership.
George Bush holds the office because he convinced a goodly number of voters four years ago that he would unify an increasingly divided country. He made a convincing case that he would be a decisive leader. He sold himself as the candidate best able to articulate the traditional moral values of Middle America.
A goodly number, it should be noted, was less than his opponent Al Gore. He was decisive about Iraq and we saw where that got us. "The candidate best able to articulate the traditional moral values of Middle America"? Articulate? This proves the Indy Star editorialist didn't watch the debates. The Indy Star come to their conclusion by ignoring Sen Kerry's record.
Sen. John Kerry is in hot pursuit of the presidency not because of his Senate record (it's undistinguished)If by undistinguished you mean uncovering the BCCI scandal which was the worst financial catastrophe to be wrought upon this country until Bush's friend Ken Lay at Enron came along.
So the resolute editorialist in Indianapolis is urging his readers to clap louder for Bush. Hey, it worked for Tinkerbelle why not for TinkerBush?

bin Laden Family Making Money From the War on Terror
The Bush and bin-Laden connection isn't just the Carlyle Group. The Carlyle Group makes money from things that go boom. The bin Laden family's construction business has done work for Bechtel. Amazing, Bush's family blows things up so Cheney's company Halliburton can get money to build things up. Osama blows things up and his family gets money to build things up. His family asserts they don't give money to Osama; we have nothing but their word on it. Prince Bandar, aka Bandar Bush, has given money to Osama bin Laden. As part of the Saudi Royal Family he is bound to have dealings with one of Saudia Arabia's richest families. Do Americans think only Richard Nixon knew how to launder money?

Third Debate Analysis
Bush needs to work on his Dennis Miller impression. The only part he got right was being able to make a bad joke worse with poor delivery.
I don't even like country music but this is worth a listen
From Cursor, I learned about "Taking My Country Back" a song with heart for the heartland. Kerry should pay to play (Pay Go?) this in every CW station in the country. Who would have known lyrics such as "You blew the budget and you botched Iraq" could sound so catchy.

It isn't me!
Someone has a script bot posting "Frist" at Atrios with the poster's name as "Miserable Failure" and his home page as Miserable Failure. I swear it isn't me. The good news is it has cut down on the number of people trying to post [Frist, first] there because they can't do it as quickly as the script bot. As far as saying http://www.whitehouse.gov/president/gwbbio.html is the homepage of the "Miserable Failure"? My name is George Johnston and I approve that message.
Mission Failed
Liar Bush and Liar Cheney invaded Iraq because as Liar Rice said, "We don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud." Reuters reports:
Not even an "Oops" from the Bush administration? How exactly is the Miserable Failure making us safer from terrorists?
IAEA spokesman Mark Gwozdecky said that before the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, all of the nuclear materials, equipment and facilities that have disappeared from satellite photos were accounted for and were not being used in a weapons program.
"This is dual-use stuff of which -- when we were there -- we were certain was not being misused," he said, adding that everything had been tagged or sealed and was closely monitored.

Fahrenheit 9/11 - Better When Seen Again

Sinclair and John Kerry
According to Atrios, Sinclair is about to broadcast a screed against John Kerry. I won't quiver, mumble or shout. I say, "bring it on!" Yes, it will be full of fetid lies but I think humour is the best disinfectant and Sinclair's lies won't survive the glare of public scrutiny.
Who Will Charles Gibson Vote For?
We may never know and it won't affect how I vote. Kerry promised to raise Gibson's taxes and Bush went ballistic on Gibson.
Nice web site
Security Moms for Kerry:
Hey, Security Moms!*
This Security Mom is worried about: assault weapons – and there will be a lot more of them on our streets thanks to George Bush.
Security kids have a better chance of being safe under Kerry than under Bush. This has nothing to do with boats or planes they piloted 30 years ago. It has everything to do with credibility. Bush and his band of thieves are now making the same claims against Iran that they did in the run up to the Iraq quagmire. They might be right. I wouldn't bet on it and no sane person or country would. If America deems it is a risk then Kerry will have a better chance to build a coalition rather than the boy who cried wolf.

Coaltion Losses
In the Cheney Lie Fest, commonly known as the Edwards-Cheney VP debate, Cheney attempted to minimze American deaths by including Iraqi deaths. Big Time Patriot (no relation)asks, "Let me get this straight, Iraq is now a member of the coalition formed to attack Iraq?"
Anyone else bothered by this?
In the debate between Senator Kerry and Bush:
Interestingly phrased answer. "No, I don't believe it's going to happen." People assumed he meant that he was disavowing their scare tactic against Kerry. I think he meant John Kerry's election wasn't going to happen.
Lehrer: New question, Mr. President, two minutes.
Do you believe the election of Senator Kerry on November the 2nd would increase the chances of the U.S. being hit by another 9/11-type terrorist attack?
Bush: No, I don't believe it's going to happen. I believe I'm going to win, because the American people know I know how to lead. I've shown the American people I know how to lead.

Helliburton
According to CBS polling of undecideds:
Cheney - Disrespectful SOB
When Edwards described his account of Cheney’s tenure at Halliburton and that company’s dealings with Iran, he registered very high with the uncommitted voters. Other than that exchange, neither candidate did especially well when they attacked each other directly.
Cheney's sarcastic and untrue remark that "I'm up in the Senate most Tuesdays when they're in session. The first time I ever met you was when you walked on the stage tonight." was very unfitting for a debate. Edwards could have returned the snark easily by saying, "Perhaps if you hadn't been hiding in an undisclosed location..." but Sen. Edwards is too respectful of the American people and the electoral process to do that.
Kudos to ABC for fact checking.
Alernate explanantion: Was Cheney confused and thought he was on the Senate floor?
Bonus question: Why is a Bush supporter making cracks about time on the job?

Can you say "Out of touch"?
Bush's upbeat assessment of world affairs in general and Iraq in particular contrasted sharply with assessments of diplomats and world leaders gathered for the annual meeting of the U.N. General Assembly
What does the United States State Department have to say at travel.state.gov?
What do the targets include?
In other words, just about everywhere a visitor might go.
Are there any regions it isn't safe to go?
Oh, by the way, travel between the International Zone and Baghdad International Airport is particularly dangerous.
Latest ABC Poll

- checkpoints
- foreign diplomatic missions
In other words, just about everywhere a visitor might go.
Are there any regions it isn't safe to go?
- Ramadi
- Fallujah
- travel between al-Hillah and Baghdad
Oh, by the way, travel between the International Zone and Baghdad International Airport is particularly dangerous.
ABC says Bush dropped 8 points to 57 percent "very enthusiastic" Bush supporters. 65% were enthusiastic about Bush last week? Where is ABC polling? In Bush's parallel universe?

How Can You Tell When Bush Is Lying?
Just look for when his lips are moving. Bush said Kerry had access to the same intelligence. The New York Times tells us
My Favorite Part of Thursday's Debate
"Kerry did not have access to the same intelligence," former U.N. ambassador Richard Holbrooke, a foreign policy adviser to the Democrat, said on ABC's "This Week" program. Mr. Holbrooke said the president had the advantage of "unique intelligence," which he said was significant since the Congress was not made fully aware that all administration experts did not believe the tubes were intended to produce a nuclear weapon.
When Kerry said
Bush then had one of his smirks which he quickly stifled. Funny how mentioning Iraqi oil makes Bush smile.
When you guard the oil ministry, but you don't guard the nuclear facilities, the message to a lot of people is maybe, "Wow, maybe they're interested in our oil."

NASCAR Dad and Security Mom - Marketing At Its Worst
NASCAR dads, like security moms, are worthless characterizations meant to reduce the hopes, dreams, fears and aspirations of millions of hard working Americans to a sound bite. This is how heartless marketeers work - they create a "persona" which is really just a caricature. A persona is just shorthand for trying to figure out how to get people to vote against their interests.
Why would NASCAR dads want higher gas prices and lower wages? This is what they got under Bush and they are supposedly for Bush? Yeah, right.
Security moms are for Bush? What mother wants their precious child blown up in Iraq so that Bush and Cheney can secure huge oil fields for their investors? Is that what security moms really want?

The president(sic) revives his attack on Kerry's foreign policy credentials.
After 9/11, world sympathy from allies, communists, Arabs, you name it, was astonishing. America had the sympathy of the world. Today, nearly all countries, including many members of the "Coalition of the Willing" are shunning the US.
America has gone from moral beacon to pariah thanks to the systemic torture scandals.
18,000 American troops are in Afghanistan, the last known residence of Osama bin Laden and 140,000 American troops are stuck in Iraq inflaming Arab hatred and mistrust of the US. The numbers of troops Bush has committed belies his war on terror rhetoric.
Governor Bush, you and your attack dogs use the phrase "foreign policy credentials" a lot. I don't think it means what you think it means.

From VLWC we find an open secret of the CIA's plan to affect "sovereign" Iraq's "free elections."
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Republicans, as part of the "intelligence overhaul", want to allow the CIA to operate in the US. Great idea! Republican hack Porter Goss in charge of the CIA's covert election operations unleashed from its domestic restraints.
Am I the only one who thinks this is a bad idea?

Atrios had a post about a Republican who every four years has a news story about being harassed by mean Democrats.
Washington state may have its own Serial Republican Victim. The King County Journal reports the Bush/Cheney headquarters were broken into and laptops stolen. The paragraph that caught my eye was:
CIA's Iraq 2.0
Serial Republican Victim complains for the THIRD straight presidential election of being assaulted and has his family assist.

However, Vance pointed out that "The exact same thing happened in 2000. The joint Gorton/Bush office was broken into and the computer of the Bush executive director was stolen."
Americans don't understand why Iraqis don't trust their prime minister or believe their sovereignty. Ayad Allawi worked (works?) for the CIA and MI6. The Guardian mentions the CIA's Iraq 1.0:
We all know how well that worked out.
Ayad Allawi Has an Exit Strategy
Although Saddam was still a junior figure, it is a matter of record that the CIA station in Baghdad aided the coup which first brought the Ba'athists to power in 1963.
We all know how well that worked out.
"Sovereign" Iraq's Prime Minister Ayad Allawi is apparently keeping his options open. Allawi has retained British citizenship.
So the Prime Minister of Iraq has an exit strategy. Why doesn't the US?

Did I Miss Anything?
I had to work late and then go to a school function for my son so I missed the first debate. I did catch the Daily Show were they had a clip of Bush doing a repeat performance of his "deer in the headlights" stare.
