Customer Service
skippy recounts his tale of woe as he tries to contribute $1000 and wanted his acknowledgement to contain his signature phrase. A phrase, I will point out, that is shorter than the sentence about yellowcake and Niger in a certain State of the Union address.

If!
Bush has been successful at bringing democracy to Iraq if by democracy you mean changing the winner of the last election. Ibrahim al-Jaafari may be a miserable failure in Iraq but he did win the last election and now has to step down because of U.S. pressure. I am not exactly sure what part of democracy that is. Can someone please explain it to me? Especially since we have killed over 100,000 people, spent over $1 trillion and lost over 2,000 American lives to achieve this glorious victory?

Compassionate Conservative?
FEMA wants proof of residency that's gone

San Francisco just had its 100th anniversary of the 1906 quake. If Bush and Drownie and Chertoff had been in charge back then, San Francisco might still be burning.

At this point, I think the only press secretary for the Bush junta with the requisite experience is Baghdad Bob.

Bad Decisions Plague Reichert
First there were the deputies that didn't get disciplined while Reichert was Sheriff and his hand picked successor turned a blind eye as well. Then he was in DeLay's Top 10 List of recipients of DeLay's tainted money. Now Reichert is in a controversy because he fears reminding his constituents that he votes Dick Cheney's way 98% of the time. Perhaps Deadeye Dick can pick up some shooting tips from the former Sheriff.

What Can I Say?
Men who were not duly elected are making decisions for all Americans but they are also making decisons that affect American children who aren't even born yet.

Just Wondering
If slavery was still legal in the US could you purchase a human at Wal-Mart?

Melting Pot or Perhaps a Frog Boiler
Great post, Steve! And a link from J. Wolcott makes it a twofer. The part that isn't covered much is not only does every American of Latino descent (except Abu Gonzalez) take affront at this veiled racism but also many Americans of English, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Irish, Russian, Japanese, Norwegian and a hundred other countries wonder, why the hell are the Hispanics singled out?

Death Warmed Over
Chertoff, the Cabinet official responsible for last year's Katrina mess said , "I think this has been a great wake-up call." The article continues:
Usually, FEMA waits until after a disaster hits to put federal relief coordinators and overseers in place.
This being an election year and a lot of the Gulf states are already in danger of voting Democratic so I guess Bush and Chertoff want to be prepared... this year.

Question:
As Abu Gonzalez and George Bush make endless claims for executive privilege and power, how do we know that we aren't living in a dictatorship? Because George W. Bush says so.

Can We Say Impeach?
Libby testified Bush said he could break Poppy's law and a leak a CIA operative to try and destroy Joe Wilson. Will Bush keep his promise that whoever was involved in the leak must resign?
And if there is a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated law, the person will be taken care of.
Of course, parsing his words he said taken care of it was only interpreted as resign...

Flip - Flop
Tom DeLay then:
DeLay bitterly denounced the charge as baseless and defiantly called the prosecutor, Ronnie Earle, "an unabashed partisan zealot" engaging in "personal revenge"

Tom DeLay now:
I've been fighting this strategy of personal destruction for going on 10 years. I'm not whining.
